The fact that more and more Americans were buying their clothing rather than making it also helped the garment industry and by the end of the 1860s most Americans were buying their clothing rather than making it themselves.

8.By 1880 New York produced more garments than the next four competitive cities combined and by 1910, 70% of the nations womens apparel and 40% of the mens was produced in New York.

9.Members of the New York fashion industry, including designers Nanette Lapore and Anna Sui, created Save the Garment Center to preserve the concentration of fashion industry-related businesses in the district. They say real estate pressures are driving apparel businesses out their homes in the district where theyve set up shop for over a century. They are also opposed to the easing of New Yorks zoning laws which will allow more offices into the area.

10.The New York Garment District is home to the Fashion Walk of Fame, the only permanent landmark dedicated to American fashion. Modeled after the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, the Fashion Walk of Fame celebrates excellence in design by honoring the New York designers who have had a significant and lasting impact on the way the world dresses. Inductees to the Walk of Fame, located on 7th Avenue, include designers Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Halston, Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta, Betsey Johnson, and Diane von Furstenberg.

Vietnam General Statistics Office Web site, according to the Vietnamese General Statistics Office statistics show that the (2011) the amount of imports from Vietnam in September of about $ 9.3 billion, compared with 3.6% decline in August, but growth of 31 percent over last year.

The cumulative (2011) Vietnam’s imports from January to September amounted to $ 76.9 billion, representing growth of 26.9% over the same period last year; one of the more foreign-funded enterprises amounted to approximately $ 42.6 billion of imports, grew 24.4%, Recycled PET bag imports of foreign-funded enterprises of the amount of approximately $ 34.2 billion , growing 30.2%.

January to September this year, imports are the amount of imported products increased over last year, including machinery and equipment and spare parts imported $ 11.2 billion, growing 13.3%, oil imports of $ 7.7 billion, growing 59.6%, fabric imported $ 5,000,000,000 , up 31% on steel imports $ 4.7 billion, growing 7.8%, computers, electronic products and parts imported $ 4.7 billion, growing 30.4%, plastic imports $ 3.5 billion, growing 29.2%, imports of textiles and clothing and footwear, 2.2 billion of raw materials dollars, Reusable Bags growing 14.8%, chemicals imported $ 2 billion, up 33%, car imports $ 2.4 billion, growing 13.9% (which includes the import of complete vehicles $ 840 million grew 22.1%).

Main sources of imports for the Chinese market, while imports amounted to $ 15.2 billion, representing growth of 21.7% over the same period last year, followed by $ 13.7 billion for the ASEAN, growing 32.5%, and the other from South Korea imported $ 8.1 billion, growing 38.4%, 6.6 billion of imports from Japan U.S. dollars, up 18%, imports from the EU 4.7 billion, growing 17.5%, imports from the U.S. $ 2.9 billion, growing 22.8%.

For January to September this year, the import structure of consumer goods grew 7.7%, raw materials grew 63.3%, gold 1.7 percent, machinery and equipment grew 27.3%.
